Hello everyone! This would be the Women’s Center’s first post to our new blog. Big thanks to Rob for getting this organized for us. I suppose I should just get to it, then. Here’s what’s left for the semester:

Vagina Monologue Auditions: Monday November 26th and Thursday November 29th from 6-10pm. Auditions are in 10 minute increments. Stop by the Women’s Center to sign up for a time on either of these nights and pick up an audition packet. You will have a choice of one monologue to audition with. Good luck!

Vagina Monologue Volunteers: I’d like to call them Vagina Warriors… so we will! Vagina Warriors will be helping us promote for the auditions and the events during the VDAY 2008 campaign season. This will include our documentary showing, and the Vagina Monologues. Stop by the Women’s Center to fill out our volunteer form and pick up some flyers. These can be posted on any public posting board on campus. They cannot be put on walls/doors/etc. :)

General Vagina Monologue Information: This year’s theme for the Vagina Monologues is “Changing the Story of Women.”
Our tentative dates for TVM performances are February 15th, and 16th at 8pm in the Student Center Auditorium. “V-Day’s 2008 Spotlight Campaign focuses on the Women of New Orleans and the Gulf South. These women – Katrina Warriors – have come to symbolize the universal plight of women in conflict zones– high levels of violence; economic hardship; racism; and public structures that failed to protect them. Katrina Warriors also highlight the dire need for resources to this still devastated community.” (http://vspot.vday.org/display.php?name=spotlight)

Currently, we are starting to collaborate more with the Women’s and Gender Studies program here at EMU. We are going to try to work with them more for some Academic Service Learning opportunities. This would be a benefit to both the students and to the Women’s Center as we are also students and could use the help!

We are also in the process of connecting with qualified people who can work with us to offer support groups surrounding the issues of body image/eating disorders and sexual assault. As we’re all students here at the Women’s Center, it’s difficult to do this ourselves as we aren’t qualified in the areas of support groups and counseling. We are at least trying to get the ball rolling on this one. So, if you or someone you know is willing/able to perform this job, we’d like to get in touch with them to brainstorm.

I think that’s about it for now. As always, if you have any questions/comments/concerns feel free to contact us:
